Summer Skincare Guide: All You Need to Know About After Sunburn Care

by darmawanclaudia christin on Aug 15, 2022

Did you forget to apply or reapply your sunscreen after a long sunbathing session? And now, you have to deal with the aftermath of sunburn. For some, sunburn may look golden and gives them that extra (seems glowy) tan skin. For others, it may look reddish, or just look like you just got burns/scorch. Despite it looking different, but overall, sunburn can leave your skin looking dry, wrinkly and dull and it is a sign that your skin was “damaged”. Bad news, this may eventually turn to dark spots.

5 Different Tips on How to Do Sunburn Care

However, worry not, since we are going to spill some skincare tips on how to take care of your skin after a sunburn!

1. First thing first, you need to seek shade and avoid the sun.
: You don’t want to cause more damage to your skin when it has already been through so much! Seek some shade and try to avoid direct sunlight exposure for a prolonged period of time. Use clothes with UPF and a wide-brimmed hat to protect your skin from more damage.
2. Wash your skin with cold water, cold compress or take a cold bath for a few minutes.
: You can do this a few times a day. This cools down and reduces the temperature of your skin temporarily. Gently pat your skin dry and apply a thick moisturizer afterwards to help trap water.
3. Drink more water.
: Reduce chances of dehydration by consuming enough water since your skin barrier is compromised due to the sun damage.
4. Don’t pop your blisters!
: Allow them to heal by themselves and prevent reinfection from happening.

How to deal with different degree of sunburn:

a. Mild sunburn: cool it down and rehydrate! Have a cold shower/bath, use skincare with cooling and hydrating ingredients right after you wash your skin to lock in the water.

b. Early-Moderate burn: apply thick cream, use skincare with ingredients to reduce irritation (might as well use anti-itch to prevent you from scratching them). You may consider taking aspirin / ibuprofen to reduce swelling, redness or any discomfort

c. If your sunburn is getting worse or shows these symptoms (swelling, blisters, fever, shivering, headache, fatigue), visit a doctor.
