Recurring Acne: Why It Keeps Coming Back

recurring acne

Ever wonder why you can’t seem to get rid of your acne? Right when you think your acne is getting better, other red bumps appear on your face like the worst nightmare almost like a never-ending vicious cycle.

Actually, we may not be able to pin-point the exact reason. Since there are many answers to this question. Some people might be more prone to acne than others and there are a zillion different reasons that may flare up your skin condition.

Let’s take a look for some of the trigger that may worsen your condition and keep your acne from coming back.

recheck diet

1. Recheck Your Diet, Alter It If Needed

Foods that are high in sugar, high in glycemic index as well as rich in dairy have been linked to worse conditions of acne. We are not saying that you should restrict yourself entirely from having them, but always think of having them in moderation. Or maybe you might want to check the nutrition label of the food you have to check for hidden sugar.

Food with hidden sugar:

  • Cereal

  • Granola

  • Yoghurt

  • Jam

  • Raisins & dried fruit

minimize stress

2. Minimize Stress

Stress causes the body to produce excess cortisol and other hormones which trigger the overproduction of sebum, which will clog pores quickly and form acne afterwards as well as inflammation that causes redness.

3. Get Enough Sleep

It is no secret that great and enough sleep benefits the skin greatly. When you sleep, the body cells regenerate including our skin cells. Sleep lowers stress levels, preventing the overproduction of cortisol and thus clearer and better skin.

dehydration

4. Dehydration

Our bodies need water to self-regulate. When it lacks water, they produce excess sebum —more than it already would to keep the skin hydrated. Which, again, disrupts how the skin cell functions leading to accumulation of dead skin cells that can plug up a pore.

5. Maintain Personal Hygiene

Don’t touch your face with dirty fingers or even try to pop your pimple. Make sure to cleanse your hand before you wash your skin or use a skincare product. Avoid playing with your phone in between your skincare routine since it harbors a lot of unwanted bacteria that may worsen your acne condition

over cleansing

6. Over-Cleansing

Contrary to the previous point, this is not a newsflash anymore. Over-cleansing strips your natural oil off your face which leads to drier skin and damaged skin barrier. The more your skin is irritated, the worse your acne.

7. Make Sure To Rinse Off Hair Products Properly

When we are not rinsing off hair products properly, there might be a few of them left and dropped onto our skin. This might trigger comedones as most of the hair products are not created to be non-comedogenic.
