Your Skincare Personality According to Your MBTI Personality!

by Hailei Kim on Nov 09, 2020

You only need 4 letters to know one person from A to Z. Personality tests have always been around but never created such a boom like MBTI. MBTI, which is short for Myers Briggs Type Indicator, is the basic tool to help you figure out how you communicate with others, make decisions, cope with changes, and so on. This theory categorizes people into 16 different personality types according to 4 distinct sections.
  • •  Favorite world: Do you prefer to focus on the outer world or on your own inner world? This is called Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I).
  • •  Information: Do you prefer to focus on the basic information you take in or do you prefer to interpret and add meaning? This is called Sensing (S) or Intuition (N)
  • •  Decisions: When making decisions, do you prefer to first look at logic and consistency or first look at the people and special circumstances? This is called Thinking (T) or Feeling (F)
  • •  Structure: In dealing with the outside world, do you prefer to get things decided or do you prefer to stay open to new information and options? This is called Judging (J) or Perceiving (P)

"It is up to each person to recognize his or her true preferences."

-- Isabel Briggs Myers

Don’t ask your date whether he is a dog person or a cat person and try to guess what the implications of the answer is, but instead, casually bring up the topic of MBTI (he’s probably already heard of it or it could be a great conversation starter) and save yourself hours or even years of getting to know someone. This will only take you minutes: https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test

Skincare According to Your Personality

1. Analyst

Analysts are the professors of the MBTIs. If the analysts are using a product, you know it’s legit because they did the research, double checked the facts, and probably did at least 2 or 3 case studies on the topic. If you are an analyst, you also do your skincare like an analyst. Having a fixed routine for different skin concerns fits analysts the best.

If you are an 'analyst'

• you would have fixed skincare routine ready for different skin concerns • you would do your skincare research professionally • you would feel comfortable knowing that you have a routine ready for you at all times• you would love Wish, Try, Love  Analysts first categorize their skin concerns according to the frequency of the common skin conditions -- is it always there? Are they random breakouts? Or is it a pattern related to your time of the month? Analysts ask to figure out the primary cause of the skin problem and start from there. Not to mention that they draw a separate column for different causes, they ask the second question to be precise. This time, for instance, could be about asking to see the urgency of the treatment. Do you have an important day coming up? Having your graduation picture taken next week? As an analyst, you should keep track of the time frame of each skincare regimen. Well, you know that they don’t stop here! A third question is just waiting to be inspected, interrogated, and investigated.

2. Diplomat

Diplomats make mistakes but not the same mistakes twice. Diplomats enjoy keeping a skincare journal so you know what works for you and what doesn’t. Having a morning routine and a nighttime routine is nice but what is the point of differentiating the skincare routines if you are not going to make tables, charts, and bullet points for everything you need to do. Diplomats don’t think this is work. They make having a skincare journal fun! Coming up with reward systems with cute stickers in the shape of lipsticks, serums, and facial cream, keeping a skincare journal for diplomats is just another way of doing your skincare right.

If you are a 'diplomat'

• you are likely to keep a skincare journal • you would still find a way to keep a positive vibe even if you have skin troubles • you would resort to quickly finding a solution than sitting on skin problems • you would find multi-function products handy! Like how failure is the mother of success, a pimple, for the Diplomats, is just another milestone of treating acne and getting the flawless skin you deserve. For the Diplomats, acne could be a fun excuse to go over all you have written in your skincare journal. Glancing over the accumulated data on acne, the Diplomats instantly know how to respond to hormonal acne, fungal-acne, and even random breakouts and they have a long list of proof to back them up.

3. Sentinel

Sentinels are an important asset to the skincare community. Whether you are a loyal law-abiding citizen like the Executive type (ESTJ) or a sweet, caring Defender type (ISFJ) that always has your back, you all share the love of wanting to give something back to the community. Without sentinels, who would leave the reviews letting us know what works and what doesn't? Sentinels don’t just give star ratings. They write reviews, if not in paragraphs. Who would go through all the trouble of taking photos in various angles, taking out other similar products that they already own, and carefully selecting the ones that look best for the photo reviews? If you said the Sentinels, you got the right answer. Whether it is to save someone from making the same mistake of buying the wrong product or spreading the word about the wonders that a product can do, the Sentinels will write away as they believe what goes around, comes around.

If you are a 'sentinel'

• you are likely to trust reviews • you also don't hesitate to write honest reviews  • you won't have problems creating your own routine with different products• you would enjoy reading series of editorials on Wishtrend Glam When it comes to their skincare regimen, you might think sentinels would be swayed by all the persuasive reviews out there but the Sentinels trust only their own guts. They take in recommendations and advice from other people but what matters the most for sentinels is getting their own hands dirty and trying out new products for themselves. This is the way they feel safe and secure about their skincare regimen. Don’t get me wrong! It’s not that they are always stuck in their own little bubble but it’s just that they simply love getting creative with their skincare routine and adding a little bit of spice to make their regimen more special. You are definitely the Sentinel type when you know you don’t have a problem with curating your own routine with an array of different products!

4) Explorer

You can never predict the Explorers. One thing you can expect from the Explorers is unexpectedness. As spontaneous and adventurous as they are, they love taking risks and trying out something new with their skincare. Some of the Explorers might have a set of skincare routines that they usually stick to but rigid structure and strict rules are not cut out for them. Even when it was them who created the routine, they deviate from it and make another one the next day. They do what it feels right and feels good on their skin. If you are a 'explorer'• you would love to test out new products ASAP• you would be interested in trying and testing out smart skincare devices  • you would be eager to try out new formulations and combination of ingredients• you would love LED Therapy Mask for different skin effects Sometimes, it’s scary to go out there and try out something new that has no reviews. But not for the Explorers! Explorers enjoy the fun of not knowing and being the first to try something out. That may be the reason why the Explorers are the MBTIs that own the most smart skincare devices. They are already tired of the old, traditional way of scrubbing your skin with the physical exfoliator. They already tried out chemical exfoliators and had some fun with it. They are now into galvanic exfoliators that gently exfoliate your skin with nanotechnology. While some laughed at how the LED masks resembled the mask of Iron Man, the Explorers were already out there at the frontier testing out the LED masks for themselves even before the trend started. As early-adopters of the skincare community, the Explorers love mixing it up with the season’s newest “it” item, the trendiest K-beauty regimen, and the smartest products. If you want to know what the latest boom in K-beauty is, don't search the internet, ask the explorers.
