"Skin Reset": How to Build Your Own Cleansing Routine

skin reset

Our skin is the largest organ in our body and it is constantly exposed to various external environmental factors which take their toll on its health and appearance. Over time, the impact felt by our skin can lead to acne breakouts, a dull complexion and other issues. But, all is not lost, a skin reset may be exactly what you need to refresh and rejuvenate your skin.

What is a ‘skin reset’?

A skin reset is exactly what it sounds like: taking a step back to think and renew. A skin reset may be necessary when your skincare routine has stagnated, or you believe your skin is in need of a refresh in its routine. A skin reset is designed to find your skin its perfect balance and whether you’re struggling with persistent acne, uneven texture, or simply want to restore your skin’s glow, a skin reset can help you bounce back and feel radiant again.

Cleansing is KEY

When it comes to a good skincare routine, cleansing is one of, if not the most important steps for achieving a healthy and glowing complexion. If cleansing is not carried out effectively, the rest of your skincare routine may be going to waste. But how can you choose the right cleanser for you?

Not every cleanser or cleansing habit is right for everyone. It’s important to know your skin type and how to cleanse accordingly.

Dry Skin: Moistful Reset

For dry skin, a good cleanser will provide moisture, without drying out the skin further whilst also removing dirt and impurities. It may also be helpful to only cleanse once a day, in the evening, as excess cleansing can cause the skin to dry out. In addition, avoid using hot water as this can strip the skin of its natural oils, causing the skin to dry out more. Recommended products for dry skin include:

COSRX Advanced Snail Mucin Powder Gel: the key ingredient in this cleanser is snail mucin which can help retain moisture and promote skin hydration. Rich in humectant compounds, it helps attract and bind moisture to the skin to alleviate dryness and improve hydration levels whilst gently cleansing the skin of impurities.

Klairs Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser: this cleanser contains hyaluronic acid which helps attract and retain moisture in the skin. It also contains aloe vera leaf extract and tea tree leaf oil which help to calm dry and irritated skin, so if you also have sensitive skin this may be a great option for you!

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil: this cleanser helps maintain the skin’s moisture levels thanks to its natural oils including black sesame oil, black currant seed oil and black bean oil which provide hydration and nourishment to the skin whilst effectively removing makeup and impurities.

Oily Skin: Light Reset

For oily skin, cleansers which are able to dive deep into pores and remove excess sebum are essential! In terms of cleansing habits for oily skin, cleansing twice a day is recommended in order to remove excess oils and sebum. Some recommended products for oily skin include:

Rovectin Green Papaya Pore Cleansing Foam: this cleanser is formulated to target excess oils, impurities and help unclog pores. The key ingredient, green papaya extract contains papain enzyme which is a natural exfoliant, helping to exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells. It also contains hyaluronic acid which is a great moisturizing ingredient to ensure the skin stays hydrated to avoid excess oil production.

By Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash: this is formulated to help control excess sebum production whilst deeply cleansing pores and removing excess oil and impurities. The green tea also provides help with sebum regulation and anti-inflammatory properties help to calm the skin to help avoid acne breakouts for oily skin.

I'M FROM Fig Cleansing Balm: this cleansing balm is a lightweight and non-greasy cleansing balm formulated with fig oil and fig extract which are known for their skin-balancing properties, helping to regulate excess oil production by nourishing and hydrating the skin as well as deeply cleansing the skin.

Combination Skin: Balanced Reset

Finding the right balance between oily and dry areas can be difficult, so it may be better to choose an overall mild but deep cleansing cleanser for combination skin. For combination skin it is also important to cleanse twice a day to cater to both dry and oily skin concerns. Some recommended products for combination skin include:

Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil: this cleansing oil is lightweight, yet able to remove excess oils common in combination skin, whilst also providing combination skin with much needed skin balance, thanks to ingredients such as sunflower seed oil and jojoba oil. It is also gentle and soothing with black sesame oil to help provide relief for potential sensitive areas of combination skin.

By Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash: this powder wash uniquely turns into foam once water is added, creating a foam cleanser with the power to sink deeply into pores. It’s great for combination skin as it is able to cleanse well whilst addressing the oily parts of the skin, and help provide moisture to dryer areas.

COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser: this cleanser has a low pH to match the skin’s natural pH and provides mild yet effective cleansing. It contains tea tree oil which has antibacterial properties and can be useful to contain breakouts and help control oily areas of the skin. It also contains mild exfoliant BHA to help remove dead skin cells and promote a smooth complexion

Sensitive Skin: Gentle Reset

Cleansers which are low-irritation with natural surfactants and which can calm skin whilst cleansing deeply give the best care for sensitive skin. Those with sensitive skin may also have a compromised skin barrier and therefore repairing and hydrating ingredients are always welcome for sensitive skin. Cleansing should be carried out whilst avoiding scrubbing the skin too harshly and without using cleansing tools in order to keep skin irritation to a minimum. Recommended cleansers for sensitive skin include:

I’M FROM Mugwort Gel Cleanser: this gel cleanser is formulated with mugwort, known for its anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce inflammation and also soothe the skin. Its gel texture is hydrating and helps to retain the skin’s moisture to prevent dryness, which could lead to skin irritation. It also has a non-irritating and mild formula, free from harsh chemicals, making it ideal for sensitive skin!

Rovectin Conditioning Cleanser: this cleanser has a low pH, making it non-irritating. In addition, it is free from harsh ingredients such as parabens, sulfates and fragrance which could irritate sensitive skin. It also contains plenty of soothing ingredients like allantoin, aloe vera and panthenol which reduce redness and help calm sensitive skin.

By Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Milk Foaming Wash: this cleanser is a mild and gentle cleanser which contains green tea, known for its calming and soothing properties. It also contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds which help to reduce inflammation and redness. This cleanser also contains milk proteins which help hydrate and nourish sensitive skin.
