Well-aging through deep moisturizing
by Claudia Christin on Sep 18, 2023
We all must be well aware that every second as we breathe, we go through the aging process. Did you know that our skin’s ability to produce collagen is decreasing by 1% every year as soon as we hit the age of 25? Not only that, but our skin’s strength decreased. As our skin barrier gets impaired, it will be more susceptible to any kind of external stressors and increased water loss (Transepidermal water loss).
What do we do to help our skin so it can age well despite all the skin changes we went through as we age?
Moisturizing is the first step for well-aging
Moisturizing helps retain moisture and nourish your skin by trapping water in your skin. In result, it will protect your skin from external stressors, strengthen the barrier function and indirectly improve the appearance of your skin, make fine lines and wrinkles less visible and make your skin look plump and younger.
Most anti-aging creams or serums are targeting the dryness or dehydration of our skin to make it look younger. This is why moisturizing is the first step for well-aging. You might not really need a specific anti-aging cream to help with dryness/dehydration if you are still in your early twenties. Any moisturizer can help as the first step to fight off dryness and dehydration.

However, if you have a more mature skin, you might need a moisturizer that is richer in texture to give that extra hydration and moisture. It is also important to choose a moisturizer with ingredients to help you lock in the moisture for a longer time, so it can keep your skin hydrated all day. You can also add a nice serum with ingredients that can help with skin renewal and regeneration.

How it prevents the skin from having wrinkles
When your skin is dry, it is easier for wrinkles and fine lines to form. As moisturizer hydrates and nourishes your skin, it keeps the dryness away from your skin and thus prevents wrinkles formation. A moisturizer with active ingredients rich in antioxidants (Vitamin C and E, for example) is also good to fight off free radicals which can cause your skin to mature faster.
