Beets or Beta vulgaris also know as beetroot extract in skincare is an ingredient rich in mineral and vitamins, such as iron, vitamin C, vitamin b9, fiber, manganese, and potassium. It is believed to benefit skin due to its high content of vitamin C.

1. Antioxidant:

By protecting our skin from free radical damage, this ingredient indirectly protects us against premature aging, thus called as its anti-aging benefit. 


2. Anti-inflammatory:

It also helps reduce and soothe redness  and irritation on the skin. If you are dealing with flushing, sensitized, itchy and flakey skin, you are going to get the best out of this one ingredient. How to Incorporate Beetroot Effectively into Skincare?

Leave it to the formulator hands! Avoid doing DIYs skincare using beetroot to lower the chance of irritation (though there is minimal research on this probability). Make sure to check the ingredient list to see the percentage of the beetroot extract included in the product and what ingredients are paired together.

1. Consume it as juice:

Recipes:

  • 2 medium beets, trimmed and scrubbed 

  • 1 apple

  • 3 medium carrots 

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
    Juice, in this order, the beets, apples and carrots, following your juicer's specific settings for each. Stir in the chia seeds if using and let soak for 5 minutes. Serve the juice immediately over ice, if desired.


2. Consume it as a salad:

Recipe for salad: 

  • 6 medium beets

  • 6 cups of baby arugula 

  • ½ cup of feta cheese 

  • ½ cup of pecans 

  • ½ cup of cranberries 

Recipe for salad dressing:

  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil

  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar 

  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard 

  • 1 garlic clove 

  • ¼ tsp salt 

  • 1/8 black pepper
