#wishtrender: Kelly Driscoll, Skincare Youtuber & K-Beauty Expert

by Gina Myung on Nov 27, 2020

We’re back with the 7th edition of #wishtrender, and this time we’re excited to introduce YouTuber Kelly Driscoll, self-proclaimed K-Beauty Princess, and long time Wishtrender. Much like us here at Wishtrend, Kelly strives to spread her belief in positive beauty through her platforms, which is a much-needed mindset especially through these difficult times.  While you can take a look at Kelly’s skincare journey on Instagram, YouTube and her blog, read on to get to know more about her and her personal journey with skincare.

"What inspired me was a desire to help...I wanted to give back tby creating a space to share what I had learned about my skin..."

  1. • Please shortly introduce yourself for us!

Hi everyone - I’m Kelly, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin based YouTuber absolutely obsessed with Korean skincare! I share lots of in-depth reviews and love discovering new products for my subscribers.
  1. • Do you have any self care tips you’ve picked up in light of this difficult year?

As someone who runs their business fully online, I’m incredibly lucky to be in a position to easily stay at home and socially distance during this pandemic. But, that doesn’t mean I’m immune to the stress and anxiety of 2020! I’ve been disconnecting from social media, feeding my mind with books and podcasts, staying active, allowing myself more rest and sleep when needed and channeling my energy into creative projects.

• What first sparked your interest in beauty and skincare?

I always enjoyed makeup, but I struggled with proper removal and that was what got me researching cleansers. When I saw huge improvement in my skin just from double cleansing, I got even more curious about how I could benefit from a well-constructed skincare routine.
  1. • How did you specifically develop your interest in Korean skincare?

I wasn’t exposed to Asian cosmetics growing up - it was only through YouTube that I started to learn about different Asian skincare brands, and the double cleansing method is what really got me hooked to Korean skincare. When I first got serious about skincare I just entered the job market so affordability was a huge factor for me. Korean skincare was just as effective (sometimes more so) than Western skincare that easily cost three times as much!
  1. • How has your relationship with makeup changed over the years?

Throughout my skincare journey, I’ve found that I’ve shifted away from wanting to fake perfect skin. Sure some days I want to cover my blemishes, but I also know that my skin is healthy and glowing so I don’t want to cover it all with heavy base makeup. I think it’s all about being comfortable in your skin and using makeup as a way to express that confidence!
  1. • What’s a ride-or-die beauty tip you’d like to share with our readers?

Be kind to your skin. We live in a world where we’re so used to instant results and often have the same expectations to our skincare. Adopting a kinder approach towards my skin has helped me embrace patience and gentleness to really build a routine that works for my skin.
  1. • Please let our readers in on your top 5 favorite products!

Only 5? I have so many, but the Keep Cool And Soothe Bamboo Toner is definitely a top pick because it’s so deeply hydrating. I also have a huge love of mugwort, especially to help soothe my sensitive skin, so the I’m From Mugwort Essence has been on heavy rotation lately. And, I can’t live without my By Wishtrend Polyphenols In Propolis 15% Ampoule! It’s my go to when my skin is inflamed or breaking out because it’s gentle, calming and helps get rid of pimples! The Stratia Liquid Gold is a lifesaver, and finally, for moisturizer the Illiyoon Ato Ceramide Concentrate Cream has been a long time favorite of mine!

  1. • What inspired you to first start being active on your various social media platforms?

What inspired me was a desire to help. I had spent a long time experimenting with skincare to figure out what works and I wanted to give back by creating a space to share what I had learned about my skin and the Korean skincare world. I also started YouTube in 2013, but I didn’t get serious until 2018 when I found my confidence and direction in video making. I had recently been laid off from my job and I finally asked myself, “What do you have to lose?” I haven’t looked back since!
  1. • How and when did you first hear about Wishtrend?

I first discovered Wishtrend through YouTube! I always enjoyed the videos and Wishtrend is also home to one of my favorite brands, Klairs!
  1. Can you tell us about your experience working with us here at Wishtrend?

It’s been a dream come true for me. As an influencer it’s incredibly important for me to create an open, honest relationship with my subscribers, and it’s always been my goal to help them along their skincare journeys. Having the opportunity to work with a brand that I already love to create a skincare box together has been amazing!

  1. • Do you have any goals left for the last few couple months of 2020?

This year has really taught me the importance of connection. When COVID first took its grip on the world, I felt that this was time content creators were needed most to entertain, distract and connect in a way TV just can’t. I have some projects in the works that I hope will make a contribution to my followers during this crazy time!
  1. • Any last words you’d like to leave your fellow Wishtrenders?

Keep going! It’s been a hard year for so many of us and we still have challenges ahead but we’ll get through this together.
