Acne 101: Ingredients to look for and why is it not working?

by WISHCOMPANY INC on Nov 29, 2021

Acne is the most common skin condition and affects many adolescents and young adults. We have at least experienced at least minor acne once in our life. Acne happens when your pores are clogged with dead skin cells and there is overgrowth of certain bacteria (P.Acnes) inside the pores that leads to inflammation. Here are some of the ingredients you may want to look for that can help tackle acnes from different angle.  These above ingredients can help tackle your acne from different processes of acne, from keratolytic (breaking down the dead skin cells), anti-microbial (killing the acne-causing bacteria), and anti-inflammation (reduce the inflammation process that is going).  However, it is not uncommon for people to experience persistent acne despite their efforts on incorporating these ingredients in their skincare routine. There are a few possible reasons on why your acne is not getting any better:

1. Give it some time to work and follow direction of use

Be patient and wait for at least 4 weeks for your products to actually show significant results. Remember that there is no instant cure for your acne. The next thing that you should remember is to follow the instructions of use. We often focus too much on the pimple and forget that the rest of our face still needs just the same amount of care. Instead of treating them once the issue arises, it’s always best to prevent them altogether and apply your products on your whole face.

2. You are not using the product consistently enough

You should be consistent. If you don’t use it consistently, you may not get the results that you expected or as what the product has claimed to be. A lot of people tend to use their product one day and forget it the other day.

3. You’re touching your face and popping your pimple

Popping your pimple or touching your face is a big no for all acne-prone skin. It increases chance of re-infection, worsen inflammation and increase the chance of acne scars formation.

4. Integrate a healthy lifestyle

Acne is very multifactorial and should be approached holistically. Other than having a set of skincare routine targeted for your acne-concern, you should be practicing a healthy lifestyle that supports the acne treatment. Have enough sleep, eat a healthy balanced diet, manage stress and exercise regularly.

5. If everything else fails, consider consulting with your dermatologist

Not all types of acne with different ranges of severity can be taken care of by just skincare. There are certain types of acne that require more serious medical attention. So don’t be afraid to take the next step for professional care.
