What are Blackheads?

When the skin produces sebum and it becomes trapped along with dead skin cells in your pores, it can cause them to clog. And since these are open at the surface of the skin, it allows the dirt and debris inside your pores to oxidize and gives it that black color.

Prevention

  • ✓ Try to keep oil/sebum production in check
  • ✓ Exfoliate with BHA (beta hydroxy acid) to shed those dead skin cells before they clog up your pores!
  • ✓ Additionally, ingredients like retinoids and azelaic acid can help too

Treating Existing Blackheads

Use exfoliators with salicylic acid at night (1-2 times a week) because salicylic acid can help loosen the dead skin and sebum in your pores. Adding these two steps to your night time routine can help effectively remove pore clogging residue and treat blackheads.

Pore Strips

Careful with those pore strips! It may make you feel like it’s de-gunking your pores, but in reality it’s only removing the superficial tips of the blackhead. The root of the issue still remains in your pores! In addition, these strips can heavily irritate your pores. So we recommend caution when it comes to pore strips.

Don’t Give Up!

Keep it up and don’t give up! Consistency is key when it comes to healthy skin, so make sure to stick with these tips to help treat blackheads. You won’t see them disappear overnight, but that’s no reason to stop!
