by WISHCOMPANY INC on Apr 21, 2021

age like a fine wine Our skin is a living organ that changes over time. The natural aging process is inevitable and is supposed to be something that we embrace. The fine lines around your eyes when you smile or the smile lines that started to show are not something that we should be fearful of, but something we should be proud of. There are two types of aging processes: intrinsic aging, which is genetically determined; and extrinsic aging that we can partially control. Although some of the factors are greatly determined by our genetics, we have huge control over how gracefully we age with what we are doing: from our daily habits, lifestyle, and skincare. Let’s learn how to press that pause button. Some preventive actions will help you retain those youthful-looking skin for the longest time possible so that you can age gracefully like a fine wine.

A lifetime commitment

Good things come with consistency and commitments. Here are some of the things that you can do in your daily routine to keep your  age like a fine wine 01
  1. 1. Sun protection & safe sun habit

Wear your sunscreen every single day and save yourself from premature aging, hyperpigmentation, and inflamed skin. Aside from sunscreen, it is important to also provide physical protection from the harmful damage of UV rays.
  1. 2. Don’t smoke

Smoking is not only bad for your lungs, but also for your skin. It results in free radical formation and fastens the aging process of your skin cells. Stop smoking and your body will forever thank you.
  1. 3. Eat healthy well-balanced diet

There is no specific diet for younger-looking skin. In general, eating fresh produce, antioxidant-rich and vitamin-rich food can help your skin preserve its look for a longer time.
  1. 4. Limit alcohol and sugar intake

Overconsuming alcohol and sugar can fasten the aging process of your body, so try to limit them occasionally.
  1. 5. Keep your skin moisturized

Either if you have dry or oily skin, you need to help your skin stay hydrated by moisturizing them right at a different stage of your life. When you’re younger you probably need something light. While, as you grow older, your skin changes and you need more of a heavy-duty product. Just remember to keep them healthily moisturized whenever you can.  It’s never too late to start making some of these lifestyle changes. You’re never too old to start taking care of your body, including your skin. You may not see the result overnight, but you can think of it as a long-term investment. Your future self is going to thank you!  Age is not the absolute indicator when it comes to adjusting your skincare routine. So, there’s no specific age to start to get into a routine or active ingredients. However, we want to help simplify and guide you on the general guideline based on commonly seen skin issues at different age group.

For teenagers

Very active, a lot of outdoor activities, and hormonal acne

  1. 1. Slather on that sunscreen

The one thing I regret during my teenage year is to neglect sun protection. Teenagers tend to be super active with a lot of outdoor activities. The best anti-aging tip is to actually start as early as you can!
  1. 2. Don’t touch your face

Teenagers first encounter pimples during their puberty. It is so easy for them to pick on their pimple because it felt itchy and the thought that they can burst them out so that they will be gone for good. On the contrary, this action may leave them scarred forever. Make sure to remind them not to touch their face or pop their pimple.
  1. 3. Escape the FOMO trap

What you see on your social media might not be catered for your age. The TikTok trends or Instagram shelfie are not designed for teenagers. Make sure they’re not doing it just for the sake of what’s trending.
  1. 4. Don’t be too harsh

When you’re young, your skin is in its prime. Most of the time, they are still functioning optimally thus it doesn’t require any type of heavy-duty products to fix them with. There’s nothing much to be fixed in the first place.

For the 20s

Busy lifestyle and concerned with dull skin:
  1. 1. Exfoliate weekly

Are you struggling with dull skin easier than ever before? You may want to try to give exfoliation a shot. It helps remove the top layer of your dead skin cells to reveal younger and healthier-looking skin.
  1. 2. Use antioxidant-rich products

Antioxidant (L-ascorbic acid, resveratrol, green tea extracts) is going to help you pause that aging process by helping to protect your skin cells from free radical damage. It keeps your cell functioning properly; thus prevent aging. age like a fine wine

For the 30s

Concerned with premature aging and hyperpigmentation
  1. 1. Over the counter retinol

The age to think about ‘retinol’ since your collagen production has decreased significantly at this age (most probably). Retinol or their other derivate help to remind your skin on how to produce collagen at an appropriate amount for it to be plump.
  1. 2. Control hyperpigmentation

Sunspots or freckles are cute on filters. However, in real life, a lot of people are bothered by the presence of sunspots or filters and want them removed. You can control this by using a product that prevents the formation of skin-pigment
  1. 3. Level up your moisturizing game

Your skin may lose its ability to trap water at this age. Go get yourself a thicker and creamier moisturizer to keep your skin looking plump, healthy, and glowing.

For over 40s

Dry skin and concern related to aging    age like a fine wine 04
  1. 1. Level up your retinoid game

By this age, you may already be having 10 years of experience with retinoids (I hope so). Maybe it’s time for you to increase the percentage or frequency of them in your routine. Or, if you want a more cost-effective option, you can ask them for a prescription-strength retinoid.
  1. 2. Level up your moisturizing game (again)

Dryness, dehydration, and dull skin are the vicious cycle that is commonly faced by someone of their 40s or over.
  1. 3. Consult with your doctor

If you’re still not happy with it, don’t forget to consult them back with your medical provider so that they can guide you into ‘formulating’ a product that fit for day-to-day need and lifestyle. They may even over you some in-office treatment for better results.
