It’s All About the Pout!

When it comes to skincare, an important step is often left out, lip care!

With so much focus on our skin, it’s easy to forget about our lips until they’re already in trouble, so it’s time to treat our lips as well as our skin and keep them looking and feeling good all the time.

There are important factors to consider when thinking about lip care such as exfoliation, moisturization, hydration and sun protection.

The exfoliation step is definitely one that cannot be missed as it helps to remove any dead skin cells on the lips which helps prepare lips to absorb products better. It’s important to exfoliate the lips gently with a brush or a lip scrub as a physical exfoliator, or you can use a mild chemical exfoliant such as lactic or mandelic acid.

Moisturization and Hydration

Obviously an extremely important part of lip care is hydrating and moisturizing lips. For hydration, lip oils and essences are great for nourishing and providing hydration to dry lips and setting a good base before applying lip balms and masks. Great natural lip oils include rosehip oil and coconut oil.

For locking in moisture, lip balms are a must! They repair lips with nourishing ingredients such as peptides, shea butter and olive oil.

Try this!

A great lip balm to help repair and nourish dry lips is the Glow Peach Peptide Repair Lip Balm in Ice Blue (unscented) and in Peach (peach scent).

These lip balms contain 5 different peptides: Copper tripeptide-1 which helps stimulate the synthesis of collagen; Tripeptide-1 which helps increase elastin levels; Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 which helps improve the overall appearance of skin (including lips); Oligopeptide-1 known as a great skin conditioning agent; and Dipeptide-2 which acts as a natural moisturiser binding water in the skin and therefore helps prevent dry lips. It also contains peach tree flower extract which acts as an antioxidant to prevent damage from free-radicals in the air.

So, overall this product not only nourishes and moisturizes, it also protects lips from external damage.

Sun Protection

As well as protection from skin-damaging free-radicals, protection from harmful UV rays is also important. So, incorporating an SPF into your lip routine is also a good idea. You can do this by using any lip product containing SPF or simply applying a suitable sunscreen over the lips during sunscreen application.

Next time you’re doing your skincare, definitely don’t skip your lips and make sure they’re just as well looked-after as the rest of your skin!
